Distribution: This species occurs in the Mississippi and Great Lakes drainages; from southern Michigan south to Georgia and northern Florida, west to Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas, and southwest to extreme northeastern Mexico. Found in ponds, lakes, streams and rivers throughout most of eastern and southern Oklahoma.   

Life History and Ecology: This species thrives in mud and sand substrates and is common in ponds and reservoirs. Long-term brooder that is a host generalist, releases free glochidia, and is hermaphroditic. Opportunistic life history strategy.
