Distribution: Found in the Mississippi River drainage from western Pennsylvania west to southern Minnesota, and south and west to Oklahoma and Texas. Also in the Cumberland, Tennessee, and Alabama River systems. Widespread throughout the Arkansas and Red River systems in eastern Oklahoma.

Life History and Ecology: Tritogonia verrucosa can be found in a variety of habitats including small to large rivers and reservoirs. Sometimes the dominant species in a mussel bed but is often one of the more abundant species. Short-term brooder that uses a conglutinate to infect and metamorphose on catfish hosts. Equilibrium life history strategy.
