Distribution: Distributed across the Tennessee, Cumberland, and Ohio River basins, Upper Mississippi River system, and the St. Lawrence River drainage from Lake Huron to Lake Ontario. Occurs in the Little River and its tributaries in southeastern Oklahoma.Distributed in the Mississippi River drainage from southeastern Minnesota south to Louisiana; in the Ohio, Cumberland, and Tennessee Rivers; Spring River in southeastern Kansas, and northeastern Texas streams. In Oklahoma, recorded in the Verdigris, Caney, Poteau and lower Muddy Boggy Rivers.

Life History and Ecology: Short-term brooder that uses mucoid conglutinates to attract and infest fishes. Reportedly metamorphoses on catfishes. Equilibrium life history strategy.
